Russian
"Boxing" Roulette Jump-starts 2006-06 Ontario Champion Series
<>
The 2005-2006 Boxing Ontario
tournament season kicks off next week with two of Ontario’s
best females participating in the Women’s World Boxing Championships in
Russia.
From September 25 – October 3 the best female amateur boxers on the
planet will converge on the small town of Podolsk,
just outside of Moscow,
to compete for the World Title. Mary Spencer of the Windsor
Amateur Boxing
Club and Katie Dunn of the Border City Boxing Club (also Windsor) will
lead
Team Canada.
A lot is at stake in Russia
as the women not only battle to be world champion, but are looking
ahead to a
potential shot at the 2008 Olympic Games. Spencer and Dunn are no
strangers to international competition, both having won a Continental
Title in Argentina
and the Tourneo Italia World Tournament. But the pressure to win
in Russia
is much greater and the consequences much more profound>
